The Nature of Woodpeckers and the Problem with Luck

There is a sense of urgency
which your death has imparted,
sort of like a little woodpecker
taking to task with beak and high hopes.
For I know tomorrow
is always someone else’s,
not necessarily mine.
So far I have been lucky,
but karma tends to do
what little Downy’s learn,
and that is to fly away
when finished.
